During the 19th Century Europe, the Earl of Millennium plans on causing total annihilation of the human race by using his AKUMAs, weapons made of machines and raging souls. The only people that can withstand them are exorcists, which belong to the Dark Religious Organization, who uses innocence, a divine substance scattered around the world in various forms.

Not knowing who each other were, they became enemies to fight for the survival of their race.
